It’s hard for me to imagine that today April 14, 2017 I become Eighty and enter my ninth decade of life. Talk about time flying! It was just yesterday when I was laying in my Mothers arms with no worries and a full life ahead of me.
Kinda cute wasn’t I! However the point of this essay is not a boring trip through my memory lane but of my expressing gratefulness to GOD allowing me to hang around this long. Certainly HE is well aware of my many short comings and many moments of unfaithfulness. Still every day HE shows me that in spite of my wanderings, HIS Faithfulness always draws me back into the most incredible loving relationship I’ve ever known.
Two Bible verses have given me assurance of an eternal future with detailed instructions on what will be the value of that life.
John 20:31 “……but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing you may have life in His name.”
When I discovered this Scripture I saw God’s desire for me to have Joy in my Life. Attaining Eternal Life is really a very simple process. It is the believing and excepting Jesus as the Son of GOD and HIS dying on the Cross for your Sin of rejecting Him. People call that Faith. But I rather think that it takes a whole lot more Faith to believe that this World, Universe, and the miraculous wonders of the human body just arranged themselves over the Eons of time. But that’s just me.
The other verse is one that I have taken as my Life’s Verse. Often I’ve failed in it, but GOD has always been faithful to me, drawing me back to HIS promise to me.
Timothy 1:12 …….”for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.”
So there you have it. I’m one of those “Born Again” guys. That “event”of believing in Jesus as my own personal Savior happen on a Friday night in May forty nine years ago. Chuck Burkett, a dispatcher where I worked, Boeing Vertol Aircraft Company, gave me a “Gospel of John”. That’s where I discovered John 20:31, Chuck later went onto the mission field. Not sure he ever really knew the impact he had on my life.
How fitting it is that my birthday today is on Good Friday seeing it was on another Good Friday for me forty nine years ago that I for the first time saw the Cross and Jesus and believed in what they did for me.
Finally like my Grandmother said when reaching the Biblical age of Three Score and Ten years. ” My bags are packed and my house is in order. I’m ready to go Home, but just don’t push me.”
Many of you know of my love for Southern Gospel music. These two Songs stir me as no others can. Both are relatively true to God’s Word.
The Wedding Music song below may not be quite what the Lord has planned for the “Marriage Supper of the Lamb” Rev. 19:6-9. But while still here on Earth I will rejoice that one day soon I’ll be part of the Bride of Christ clothed in white and invited into the “Marriage supper of the Lamb….”
May God truly Bless You,
“In HIS grip”,
