He was Delicious, but He shoulda said “Sumpthin”

Ever been somewhere say maybe a party where you meet people for the first time? You know the scene, some guy or gal approaches you and makes conversation. If you’re like me you first notice their appearance. The expression “You never get a Second chance to make a First impression” applies here.  The interaction then begins and I must admit here I have been fooled many times.  Often the seediest looking people have the most interesting stories and conversely the best dressed and groomed can be the dullest and often the biggest bores.

If we now apply the analogy above to our blogs, where I’m headed is blog content.  Content, it is all about content.  Great blog designs without good content produces minimal traffic and poor blog designs with great content generates traffic but not great traffic.  This is why I have become so enthusiastic about “Tribe Intensive Training“.   My Tribe knows what I’m talking about, but those visiting who haven’t heard or understand what Tribes are, might want to check out the link above.  What it boils down to this, a great looking blog with valuable content yields not only abundant traffic but many wonderful people who add real substance to your life.

Okay now about the Video below.  While being funny, it portrays that which passes for good looking but doesn’t say anything of value.  It will then be perceived to be not worthwhile and discarded (or this case eaten).  Enjoy and laugh it is good for you.

I'm a 74 year old man who loves this new medium of Blogging. I am also an Senior Manager in Send Out Cards which gives me a superior method of relating to the world through Greeting Cards. I have met and enjoyed wonderful friends who support me and actually LIKE me which is very rewarding. My online presence is growing and if I can hang on to life I will reap the benefits of establishing a business that will comfort me when I get old. Mostly however I Blog about my life which for some strange reason is well received. Like most of us the future is scary and the remembrance of older days give a measure of comfort. So I continue to reveal the past with optimism that the future will some day be the comfort of somebody else.

  • Nelson,
This line is soooo true: “Often the seediest looking people have the most interesting stories and conversely the best dressed and groomed can be the dullest and often the biggest bores.” Hence you cannot always judge a book by its cover!

However, this video you posted really proves your point well. I have come across some really pretty blogs in the last month or two that look lovely but are basically placeholders for advertisements. No Content worth sticking around for, that’s for sure!

Great reminder here that it truly is AATC!!! :)

I love how you weave in your great sense of humor to share your perspective ~ I really appreciated the laugh, thanks Nelson!

Great points on the importance of looking the part AND providing great value …. while it’s true that you don’t have to show well on the outside to be a gem inside, the fact is that you are going to have to swim upstream to get noticed if that’s the case. Why not align the inside and the outside and experience the flow that is possible! It is a much nicer ride! :)

I love the way you make a very valid point while mixing in some great humor! I agree with you that you can’t judge a book but its cover nor can you judge people on first impression. I’ve been proved wrong many times.

You’re doing a great job here and I look forward to future posts.

    Thanks!

  • Nelson,
I have to absolutely agree with you: You can have the greatest blog graphics but if there is no value in the blog people will not want to come back.

I believe that I am learning to not judge a book by the cover, but you know what? Your wise thoughts about making a good impression, PLUS giving valuable content is awesome. It is nice to be reminded about the little things!
