Never Give Up

Posted by Nelson on April 19, 2010 in Life Wisdom |

What I’m about to do will be said by some a death knell for any meaningful action on this blog.   Never the less  I have decided to use my many years of Bible study to draw parallels and metaphors that will assist in our Personal Development growth .  Funny how things evolve in our lives.  I followed scriptures for many years.  I also abandon them for similar teachings to expand my core knowledge of life and how it works.  Frankly I’m more comfortable resting my future on the WORD and it’s applications to my life than any other type of mental awareness or what  some call Enlighten views.  While I am probably right now losing some visitors, I value my Faith and its’ reliance on scripture to be “A light unto my Feet“.  What I will not do is  preach to you.   However Scripture is an endless resource for Personal Development.  So fear not and use these post as another resource  you can add to your arsenal of self improvement actions ready to assist you though this life.

You notice the Blog title is “Never give Up”.  The picture to the right shows a frog in dire straights but notice his hands.  Choking the Pelican, never giving up.  In the Pentateuch,( for those in Rio Linda, the first Five Books of the Bible), the Book of Numbers Chapter 13:1-33 has Moses and Aaron sending 12 spies into the Promise Land. When they came back 10 of the 12 gave the same report.  The Land was indeed rich and overflowing with Milk and Honey but was inhabited by huge (giants) people and they thought that they could never conquer them.  The 2 who dissented where Joshua and Caleb who had a different report.  They also saw the riches of the Land but they also said that their GOD was able to lead them to victory over the Land and its people.

Well the story is well known by many.  Israel decided not to enter the Land and GOD let them to wander for 40 years until the unbelieving  generation died off.  Joshua and Caleb did enter the Promise Land and received more than they could have dream.  How does apply to us?  Israel had decided to be Ordinary and not Extraordinary.  You know just average.  My definition of average is this.  It is the best of the worst and the worst of the best.  Sorta like the Cream of the Crap. You are called to be Extraordinary.  From everything we know you have Greatness in you.  To achieve your potential,  believe in your self and take the risk necessary to move forward.

If reading the Bible is not your thing perhaps the following suggestions are more to your liking.  Are you reading motivational books?  Writing in a Journal what dreams you have and how you are working towards them?  Is there a Mentor in your life?  Are you telling yourself over and over again “It’s Possible”?  None of this is new.  Every generation has those challenging us to reach beyond our comfort zone.  Don’t be like the generation of Israel who died in the Wilderness.  Believe in yourself and the Greatness in you.  A quote I use often from my Mentor Les Brown is  ” All of us are born Unique, but most of us will die Copies” The video below is a motivational study on not giving up. You may have seem it but I challenge you to download it to your desk top and watch it often and  “Never Give Up”

I'm a 74 year old man who loves this new medium of Blogging. I am also an Senior Manager in Send Out Cards which gives me a superior method of relating to the world through Greeting Cards. I have met and enjoyed wonderful friends who support me and actually LIKE me which is very rewarding. My online presence is growing and if I can hang on to life I will reap the benefits of establishing a business that will comfort me when I get old. Mostly however I Blog about my life which for some strange reason is well received. Like most of us the future is scary and the remembrance of older days give a measure of comfort. So I continue to reveal the past with optimism that the future will some day be the comfort of somebody else.

  • Nelson, I cannot tell you how touched I was reading this blog. Keep it up. The scriptures hold many secrets to humanity. Human growth and development are in that book. Every try the Bible diet? It makes sense! So does all the other passages. I especially like this one. I’m familiar with it and yes, Never Give Up! Thanks for the brave analogy! Keep on writing because it IS YOU and comes from your soul. There is no other way to do it!

Your too kind Donna. Very familiar with many Bible diets. Probably the earliest in my lifetime was a Book written by David E. Stern MD titled “None of these Diseases”
I probable should dig it out and reread it. My waist has become waste these past few years.

  • Nelson, That segment from the movie you shared is one of my all time favorite movie scenes (I love the whole movie, too!). What an inspirational post. You are so right about every generation facing its own set of challenges, this newest one, the Millenials, included. Humans are humans no matter the age or the opportunities. We are flawed and often our own worst enemies…thus the need for constant reminders to never give up, never give up, never ever give up!
    Thank you, Nelson!

Mary I so appreciate you and value your life as big plus to me. I personally have so many flaws that when I look in a mirror the mirror cracks. But I “never give up”.

  • Nelson,

As you follow the scriptures and allow the Word to be a “light unto your feet”, you will naturally illuminate the path of others that follow you.

This is a very powerful & inspiring video clip! Each of us is capable of so much more than the effort we give.

I don’t want to fit your definition of average!

In pursuit of an Extraordinary life!
    Blessings, Rebecca :)

  • Hey Nelson, love your style and the insight you share. And I think it’s great you share from your own set of beliefs rather than to choose some obscure neutrality. That’s what authenticity is all about.

Glad to have a non-quitter out here giving us advice to grow on!

  • Nelson,

You may fear that starting your post the way you did could be the death of the blog … but it could also be the birth of it. You handled the landmine field that is religion with a lot of tact and grace. You gave content here that was also geared for those that do not share your views. You were not overly pushy and you left no feel of being judged as is often a problem when people shift into quoting biblical. I think you have a well rounded post here. Tread carefully sir, and authenticity and love could carry you a long ways.

Kimberly I value your comments and advice. Land mines are plentiful. That’s the challenge and fun of it. Have I enough wisdom and tact to pull it off? Time will tell and like a Preacher once told me. “Don’t give them the whole load just because they showed up. Always leave them wanting more” While I have narrowed my niche, I want to give place for others to look at what I say as something of value to them.

That Preacher gave you great advice! Keep it up, your on the right track! And remember that as long as your authentic, in your heart, and trying your best… those that don’t stick around, are those that would not have anyways. Don’t let losing a few that did not match your authentic, congruent energies concern you. You will attract the right people this way. *hugs*

Sometimes I wish I was like my Mentor Les Brown. He told me that when he blushes nobody can tell. I’d give you a “hug” but my wife is looking over my shoulder.

Nelson, my friend, you crack me up! The Cream of the Crap?????????? I’m teaching the Old Testament right now in our adult Sunday School class. I wish you were in the class to make comments or better yet, to teach. What an insightful man you are! Thank you for the inspiration as well as the laughs. And the video is so memorable. Thanks for including it. You’re blog is a delight. Your Tribemate, Val Haderlie

Hi Teach. Val I admire anybody who stands up and teach the WORD. Just remember HIS WORD will not return to HIM void. As for being in your class, It would be a joy and pleasure. But sometimes a BIG MOUTH is not always the things needed if your message is on point. The, as I call it, Holy Desk is not to be trifled with. Teaching others the scriptures is that important. Hebrews 13:7 is you Val, GOD bless.

    Nelson,

I too am glad to see someone willing to discuss an area that is all to often “taboo” in most people’s books (conversations).

Bill makes a very valid point. If a good, insightful story has been around for a while, chances are it came directly (or was adapted) from a story in the Bible (there is a reason it is the most widely distributed book in the world.

Looking forward to what you share next.

    Joe
    Keep plugging ahead

    [Reply]

  • Taboo, you know how old people think about that. We won’t be around long enough to really care. I like to speak my mind in a way that won’t adversely hurt others. If they do feel offended it is the word and not me if I have presented it in a proper honest manner. Thanks for dropping by.
