Your Perfect

Posted by Nelson on April 12, 2010 in Life Wisdom |

First off let me express what my beliefs are.  I believe that GOD created us not only for a purpose, but also in his Image.  Genesis 1:26   HE further  said that we are to “be perfect as the Father is in Heaven.”  Matthew 5:48.  That being said,  I can categorically say that every one of us began with the potential of being perfect for what we were created.  God’s work is perfect and that perfection is who you are.

It doesn’t take long before we think something needs to be added for us to be complete.  When in fact we already have the all resources needed to be perfect and achieve what we want in our lives.  The problem is we become programed to believe we are missing something.  We fail to achieve because we haven’t learned to live from our awareness of our own perfection.  Without living from our awareness of perfection we begin to judge others and ourselves as falling short on talent and ability.

Thomas Troward said, “Our recognition of our infinite potential is the measure of what we believe we are capable of achieving.”  Boiling down what Troward is saying is this:  —You are Perfect— We are Perfect but at times we get imperfect results.  We need to separate the “Being” from the “Behavior”   If your like me this might be a typical reaction when you write out an Affirmation.  You declare your attaining a goal of excellence in an area of your life.  Your inner voice says, “Who are you kidding Nelson, PERFECT, come on get real”

When you think about it we come into this life without any self limiting beliefs.  We arrived on the scene with all the resources to get our wants and needs met.  Some of you right now are challenging that.  Ever watch a two year old work a room.  They know no obstacles.  They imitate, go after the impossible,  show boundless love, drive you crazy with questions.   Ever watch them focus on getting a Chocolate chip cookie.  They’ll build a wobbly platform of chairs and pillows to reach it without fear of falling.  They focus with an intensity that gets them to the goal.  They touch, lick, bite everything.  They are born explorers.  They  are curious perceptive continual learners.

You see we were born perfect but we became programed for failure.  Our born nature tells us we are born explorers but our program says “Good things come to those who wait.”  Good things do not come to those who wait.  The only thing that comes to those wait is that which is left by those who hustle.  Our nature is risk taker, our program says “Better safe than Sorry”.  Our nature is to be goal striving.  Our program says, “How are you going to do that”.  Our nature is to be unconditional Lovers,  but our programs says “Don’t talk to strangers”.  By nature we are Curious, but our program tells us ” Curiosity kill the cat”.  Not maimed or injured the cat but KILLED CAT.  By nature we are imaginative,  our  program says “Be realistic”.  We are highly intuitive,  but our program bellows “Get your  head out of the clouds”.  We are born to be continual learners,  again our program says “You can’t teach old Dogs new tricks”.

By this learning Program model we are taught  to judge people. It teaches us to see imperfection in others.  This model makes us  marginalize ourselves and to allows us to be diminished by others and by us.  We learn this model on the playground of life. We adapt  this program of marginalizing and diminishing our lives so we can fit in.  That is where we find comfort, fitting in.  But the truths is we have all we need to succeed and prosper.  Below is a “You Tube” clip of a Las Vegas performer who if he followed his programed model and not his natural model would never do with his voice what you will see in the video.

I'm a 74 year old man who loves this new medium of Blogging. I am also an Senior Manager in Send Out Cards which gives me a superior method of relating to the world through Greeting Cards. I have met and enjoyed wonderful friends who support me and actually LIKE me which is very rewarding. My online presence is growing and if I can hang on to life I will reap the benefits of establishing a business that will comfort me when I get old. Mostly however I Blog about my life which for some strange reason is well received. Like most of us the future is scary and the remembrance of older days give a measure of comfort. So I continue to reveal the past with optimism that the future will some day be the comfort of somebody else.

You are so right Nelson – unfortunately our programmed self talks us out of a lot of things in life! I need to start separating the being from the behavior and start taking more chances:) Thanks for this inspiring thought!

One of the good things about old age is sometimes you can’t hear that inner voice of doubting. Not sure if it is just hard of hearing or Senility.

  • Perfect? Who me?

Pretty hard to imagine, but I guess that’s my programming.

Thanks for the encouragement to get past Judging other people. We all do it, but talk about programming. That’s all we see on TV, read in the paper or hear on radio. OUR guys are right, YOUR guys are not only wrong, but they’re evil and we hate them for their ideas, political positions, religious beliefs… or whatever.

Point… Counterpoint. But we’re way beyond that because if they’re one of YOUR guys, we won’t even entertain their point! What ever happened to True Liberals: I may disagree what you say, but I’ll fight to the death to defend your right to say it. I don’t see many of them around anymore. Now it’s all about Judgment.

Thanks for showing us a way out of this madness, Nelson!

    Nelson,
What a timely post. You brought my focus back to remember that it isn’t about getting it perfect the first time, it’s about what you learn through your mistakes that make you stronger. I am my hardest critic and stopper of creative ideas. Time to set that aside and enjoy the perfection that I am in the glory of all my imperfections!

You, my friend, gave me just the lift I needed. Thank you ;)

You are on point Val. My favorite cartoon character said: ” We have met the enemy and he is US”

    Nelson,

You’ve clearly inspired your readers today. Man, that’s what blogging is all about!

Thank you for creating the opportunity — today — to pause and think about the conversations we all too frequently have going on inside our cranium.

If I may, your post reminded me of one of my all time favorite quotes, by Marianne Williamson:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Thanks for playing “big” for us Nelson. You’ve shed more light on the imperfections that sin has caused us to have to deal with and reminded us of the greatness that resides in each and everyone of us; may we all let our light shine brighter.

    Joe

Joe your right on. I love the quote. It said in a few words what I was trying to express. Next time I’m gonna get with you to figure out what I’m saying. My Mentor Les Brown put it this way to me. “Nelson you have greatness in you, It’s Possible”

It’s unfortunate that our programming does not evolve as we grow old, unless we become aware of this programming. Part of our mission in life is to go beyond the limited realm of the mind and seek our true inner selves. Without making this search we are doomed to be the slaves of our instincts. Success requires that we step above our limiting believes, and this can only be done if we step above the automatic response of our minds. :-)
